turns out, sin eater's actually captain dewolff's colleague, stan carter. enraged by his attack on betty as well as the fact that he was being strung along by a corrupted cop all this time, spidey goes berserk and is about to become a murderer himself. daredevil, naturally, comes to rescue, and only barely escapes getting pummeled himself. now that's what real friend would do.

sin eater's next victim was supposed to be j.j. jameson; however, instead he stumbles upon betty leeds, peter's ex and an old friend, who's keeping company to jonah's wife marla while he's away. even scared speechless, betty finds a way to stall her attacker long enough for spidey to come to her rescue.

there's a subplot in the 'death of jean dewolff' story arc about peter and matt progressing from 'colleagues' to friends, and it starts with matt defending a bunch of young rascals who beat up one of the elderly residents of aunt may's halfway house.
right after this arraignment hearing, sin eater, the murderer of captain dewolff, shoots an old friend and mentor of matt's to his death, which makes this whole ordeal personal to daredevil, too.

this one's way better than the first secret wars. beyonder comes to earth in person, assumes human form and wreaks havoc; not out of ill will, but because he 'desires to understand', and understand he does not.
in the second ish, he stalks peter parker, asking him 'why is clothing' and 'why is eating'. it says all too much about pete that his first reaction to the beyonder materialising in his apartment is to clock him one. poor fella even draws a logical conclusion that it's a human way of greeting someone, and later on punches luke cage in the face to show his friendly intentions. more under the cut.

pete finally makes up with may after about a month of avoiding each other (and that's the longest they ever spent being at odds with each other, i think). she probably still thinks he flushed his future down the toilet by taking that leave of absence from university, but, well, he's still her favorite nephew. more under the cut to learn about may's opinion about this whole dropping out of college business.

later that same issue, pete finally finds time to pay fantastic four a visit to have reed examine his new costume, which has shown some rather strange properties. turns out, it's actually a living, sentient being, and it won't come off its host without some persuasion.
after that, torch generously lends spidey his old ff uniform, along with a paper bag and a 'kick me' sign :'D
