a monkey stole my juicebox
yeah, i'm reading it for the second time. i managed to forget that unique combination of cheeky humor and sheer tragedy it has.
back to the issue at hand, right now i really want to kick dixon in the balls. that fucker. and poor monty! he just had such an epiphany, meaning came back to his life, let's ruin it for him, why won't we?
i can't find the words. i really felt for the little fella, both now and the last time i read this book.

we are shown the root of syrin's drinking problem, then her complicated and bitter relationship with her uncle tom cassidy. really, you can't help but empathize with both of these broken people.
before this issue, black tom was just another generic baddie for me; now i can see the tragedy and the pain behind his character. and again, his relationship with cain is very touching. cain is facing a tough choice here: either he turns his best and only friend to the authorities, or he helplessly watches tom slowly wither away and die without a cure.
all in all, this issue can be read as a standalone story, i think.

terry has a drinking problem, jimmy's trying to be a good friend, and also maybe score with her some day. luckily, i'm not even conflicted about this, because i know that wade & terry aren't gonna work (boo hoo), so i'm gonna ship the shit outta these two.
turns out, warpath actually has eyes. scary!
meanwhile, shatterstar is making attempts at becoming an interesting character. i couldn't care less about him, really, because he has an emotional range of a spoon and barely ever says or does anything interesting, and i mostly skipped parts of this issue dedicated to him, except for maybe one panel. first he shrugs off ric's polite 'how was your day?', but then decides to open up to him a bit:
yep, you're headed in the right direction, dude. a few more moments like this one, and you might even seem somewhat more human.

nate's back. of course, first he has to kick his kids' asses just to maintain his reputation, but then the hugs follow! i'm a big girl now and i shouldn't be crying over a comic, but i sure want to.
also, now he gets to have a voice in his head, too. welcome to the club!
i can't find out who was doing the lines and the coloring in ish 25, but i'm gonna be eternally grateful to them for drawing nate (and everybody else) so beautiful.. i'm gonna steal some of their work for my userpic.
oh, and fuck magneto for stealing what wasn't his and desecrating cable's home.

i really like this 'cable's legacy' story arc so far. would've brought a tear or two to my eye of i didn't know that nate's gonna come back, not a scratch on his handsome face. and again. and again. and again.
i gotta confess, ever since rictor resurfaced, suddenly buff and sans his trademark frontlet, i keep confusing him with warpath. you know, big guys, long dark hair, rugged faces... lots of them running around suddenly.
and also, poor vanessa. first time she dared stepping out of her room, and bang! her friend got killed, and she just might follow.
it makes no sense how she was throwing people around like it's no big deal while disguised as domino, and now she's suddenly helpless. wtf?

wow, nate, you cocksure motherfucker.
my long recap of the plot.
the comic's storyline is nonlinear, it jumps from past moments to the future and back all the time and can be difficult to follow, just like cable's life, i suppose. writing the recap definitely helped.
these miniseries threw a new light on six pack's participation in the events of rumekistan story arc for me. same goes for the relationship nate and neena have in 'cable and deadpool'. he seeks her approval of his actions, the same way deadpool seeks his, really, but domino can't shake the feeling that nate's gonna fuck this up, just like he fucked everything else up before, but ends up on his side anyway because of some very personal feelings she has for him. and/or, maybe, she wants to give him another chance.

i'm the little chatterbox today, aren't i. just can't shut up.
so i've been reading this post, and i must say that i have my own hopes and expectations about how cable's character is gonna be introduced in the next deadpool movie.
i'm gonna cry like a little girl if they make him the villain, but given how much respect and love the crew have demonstrated they have for the comic book source, i hope they are going to give their complicated relationship justice, show us how their animosity turns into friendship over time. which sounds like a difficult thing to do when you gotta fit all that in a single movie, yeah.
maybe deadpool will be hired to kill cable and will get his butt kicked instead, and then they will be forced to cooperate somehow? which is basically plots of several comic books crammed together. if they also throw in some sexual tension on wade's part, i'll just melt into a happy puddle right there in a theater.

i'm starting to think that rob liefield has some sorta personal grudge against eyes as a part of human anatomy. he just won't draw them unless forced to.

that thing is HILARIOUS.
the plot is, basically, that kids encounter an alien from a neighbour dimension (thanks to warlock's grabby hands), get sucked into his surreal media polluted homeworld and try to make things right. oh, and some children back home eavesdrop on rahne complaining about the polluted river near their base and decide to get it cleaned up. to do that, they sit on their asses in the river and wait for the tv reporters to come and create a scandal around the whole thing. and it works!
now on with the images!
i was fighting the temptation to just post the whole comic page by page, and judging by the sheer length of this post, looks like i utterly failed. well, it's not like anyone's gonna be reading this, so why shouldn't i just go nuts with it?
and some pictures from this issue's pin-up gallery.

okay, i read the second half of the comic, and we were given some sort of an explanation, but i still think it doesn't fit the person nate was shown to be during simmons' run.
two pages straight from the comic
i can understand the 'letting his charges make their own decisions' thing, but he's being outright aggressive and spiteful about it, while in the previous issues he was trying to build a trust-based, comradely relationships with the members of his team. now he just seems like a sulky child, offended at the new mutants' unwillingness to play the game by his rules.
maybe i've just been reading the character wrong this whole time, but i expected him to calmly talk to them about the situation with ric and then give berto a proper sendoff. instead he made both sam and tabitha angry and less willing to put their trust in him in the future, which is critical to their teamwork, lashed out at sam and parted ways with berto on ill terms. that's just not smart, and nate is supposed to be exactly that: smart.
i'm shaking my head at you, mr. nicieza.
